By Subaashinee Kupusamy,

10 OCTOBER: At the 28th anniversary of the Penampang Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PCCCI) in Kota Kinabalu, twelve outstanding Sabah entrepreneurs were honored with excellence awards. The recipients, including businesses like Garden Bakery, Paumin Hardware, and Thousand Sunny Logistics, were celebrated for their contributions to Sabah’s economic growth.

Datuk Ewon Benedick, Minister of Entrepreneur Development, highlighted the importance of Sabah’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (PMKS), which contributed RM613.1 billion to Malaysia’s GDP in 2023. He announced initiatives to support local businesses, including RM953.9 million in funding for 53,044 entrepreneurs and cooperatives in Sabah. Additional plans focus on improving access to resources, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak, through collaboration with major firms like Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to assist local vendors.

Ewon expressed confidence in future growth for the PMKS community, pointing to the RM44 billion allocation under the 2024 MADANI government budget. He also reaffirmed his ministry’s dedication to addressing the challenges faced by entrepreneurs, with a focus on continued support and development.

PCCCI and Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce leaders, Victor Kou Lee Chong and Datuk Michael Lui, also attended the event as stated in Borneo Post Online.
