7 SEPTEMBER: A family of three in Batu Kikir, Negeri Sembilan, had a terrifying encounter when a 15kg reticulated python fell through the ceiling of their home.
The snake slithered into the bathroom, prompting the family to immediately shut the door and call for help.
Lt Mohamad Ghazali Abd Rahim, a district officer from the Civil Defence Department, said they received the distress call around 9:50am on Thursday.
A three-man team was promptly dispatched to the Rumah Rakyat Padang Lebar housing area to handle the situation.
Upon arrival, the team was informed that the python had taken refuge in the bathroom. After carefully entering the space, they discovered the snake partially coiled on the bathroom mirror. The team was able to safely capture the python and transport it to their operations centre.
The snake was later handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks for proper handling, as reticulated pythons are a protected species under Malaysia’s Wildlife Conservation Act 2010. Known as the world’s longest snake species, reticulated pythons can grow up to 10 metres in length and lay 50 to 100 eggs in a clutch as stated in The Star.
