19 Individuals Safe After Water Surge at RISDA Eco Park

24th August 2024 – A total of 19 individuals who were stranded due to a sudden water surge at RISDA Eco Park in Terengganu have been confirmed safe by the Fire and Rescue Department. The group, consisting of 14 adults and five children, found themselves stranded after a sudden rise in water levels in the area.


Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department operations center head, Senior Fire Officer II Zainal Madasin, stated that they received an emergency call at 5:59 pm and quickly dispatched a team to the location. The stranded individuals were located about 10 minutes away from the Eco Park’s entrance.


Upon arrival, the rescue team assessed the situation and ensured that everyone was in good health. They used ropes to guide the individuals safely back to the main area of the park. The rescue operation concluded successfully at 8:05 pm.


Zainal added that the quick response of the team, combined with the calm demeanor of the stranded group, contributed to the successful outcome. The park has been temporarily closed to ensure the safety of future visitors while authorities monitor the water levels and assess the risk of further surges.


This incident highlights the importance of staying vigilant when visiting natural recreational areas, especially during periods of unpredictable weather. The public is advised to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines to avoid similar situations in the future, as stated in Malaymail.
