3 OCTOBER: A massive 200 kg saltwater crocodile was successfully captured by the Perak Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) after multiple sightings raised concerns among local residents near Sungai Malim. The 3.7-meter-long crocodile was caught in a trap set by the authorities following several reports of its presence in the area. The sightings caused anxiety among the community, prompting swift action by the wildlife department to secure the reptile.
The crocodile will be relocated to a safe, controlled environment, as confirmed by PERHILITAN. This precautionary measure is part of ongoing efforts to protect both the wildlife and the residents living near the river. The relocation also helps in maintaining a balanced ecosystem while keeping dangerous wildlife away from populated areas.
PERHILITAN has issued a reminder to the public, especially those living near water bodies, to remain cautious and vigilant. They urge locals to avoid spending time near riverbanks and to report any further wildlife sightings to the authorities for immediate action. The department also plans to continue monitoring the area to ensure there are no additional threats from other crocodiles.
This successful capture reflects the department’s commitment to protecting both humans and wildlife, ensuring that situations like this are handled promptly and effectively as stated in Berita Harian.
