21-year-old death in Custody

Kuala Lumpur 27 May 2020: Bringing Surendran’s death to the public’s attention. In the midst of dealing with Ganapathy and Sivabalan’s case, we lost another 21-year-old young boy in police custody.
Surendran’s brother stated on Funky Shankar’s Instagram live that he is unaware of how his brother died while in police custody.
He was sent to Pusat Pemulihan in August in 2020. Surendran’s family was informed on April 24th that he will be sent to the Kluang Prison. Due to the virus outbreak, family members were not permitted to visit Surendran.
Surendran was admitted to the hospital on the 25th, but his family was not told at all, according to his brother, who added that Surendran was already in severe condition on the 25th.
Trust built in their family to see Surendran again until a phone call on the 26th received by the mother explaining the bad condition of the son. Cardiac problem, low blood pressure, and a dip in his pulse were all the reasons of health deterioration.
They went on to say that he was responding on the machine because his heart was too weak. Surendran’s brother acknowledged that Surendran does not drink or smoke in order for his health to worsen suddenly.
Cronologically, the autopsy report not yet be made public.
12:40am: The brother called the Kluang hospital. Refusal from medical officer on information of Surendran’s condition.
1:15 a.m: Another call to know the condition and this call was transferred to the police, who informed the death which occured at 12:30 a.m.
A death in custody is totally unimaginable and losing Surendran is a big lost for his family.
