23 Years of Teaching Excellence: A Journey from Disability to Inspiration

11 OCTOBER: Despite his physical limitations, Mohd Huzaire Ahmad, 48, has spent the last 23 years inspiring and educating his students. A wheelchair user due to partial paralysis, his passion for teaching has never wavered. Over the years, he has achieved numerous accolades at both state and national levels.
Originally leading a normal life, Mohd Huzaire became an individual with disabilities (OKU) at the age of 24 after a tragic fall from a rambutan tree left him paralyzed from the waist down. His dream of becoming a teacher nearly ended, but a visit from Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein in 2002 reignited his confidence, encouraging him to continue his career in education.
Now a dedicated teacher at Sekolah Kebangsaan FELDA Mempaga 2, Karak, Mohd Huzaire specializes in visual arts, music, and history. His remarkable efforts have earned him several prestigious awards, including the Special Award during the Pahang State Teachers’ Day celebration (2005) and the Innovative Teacher Award at the state level (2009). In 2010, he was recognized as an Outstanding OKU Teacher at the national level, followed by a Special Award at the Malaysian Institute of Teacher Education convocation in 2015, and the Tokoh OKU Cemerlang Pahang award in 2018. He also serves as a Teacher Ambassador under the “Guru Nadi Negara” initiative.
Currently, he is one of the 10 finalists for the Malaysia Teacher Prize (MTP) 2024, a testament to his unwavering dedication to education despite his reliance on a wheelchair.
Although his physical condition has worsened, with numbness in his fingers preventing him from playing musical instruments, Mohd Huzaire continues to further his education, currently pursuing a PhD at Open University Malaysia. His story is one of resilience, passion, and an unwavering commitment to both his students and his community as stated in Berita Harian.
