3,000 police report lodged against preacher over controversial sermons

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5: About 3,000 police reports have been lodged across the country against preacher Ustaz Syakir Nasoha, who was seen in a viral video making racist remarks regarding non-Muslim religions and the Dayak people.
National Chairman of Malaysian Indian Education Transformation Association (MIETA) Elangovan Annamalai, said: “In that video Syakir mentioned that Buddhists and Hindus in Thailand, India, and Pakistan are attacking mosques and killing Muslims.
“Syakir have said both religious are here in Malaysia, so Muslims have to be careful. In that video’s comment section, there were few muslims commented that ‘we must destroy them before they destroy muslims’.
“This kind of instigation is danger for minorities like us,” he said.
He added that Malaysians will continue lodging police report against Syakir until 31st October all over the country.
Elangovan added that Syakir’s statement creating hatred towards non-muslims and disharmony among the people in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Global Human Rights Federation president S. Shashi Kumar said: “We, the non-Muslims, are fed-up of being targeted. Enough is enough. This is a deliberate attack on non-Muslims.
“So, we are lodging these police reports because we want this preacher to be arrested immediately and charged.
“There are many cases where those who insult and defame non-Muslims are only arrested but not charged,” Shashi was quoted as saying by The Vibes outside the Sentul district police headquarters after lodging his report.
