86 Students at SK Chepor Suffer Food Poisoning After School Meal

By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,

26th September 2024: A total of 86 students from SK Chepor, a primary school in Perak, Malaysia, were hospitalized after experiencing symptoms of food poisoning. The incident occurred following the consumption of meals served during a school event. Affected students began showing symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, prompting immediate medical attention.

The students were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they were given necessary treatment. According to initial reports, the meal that caused the illness was provided as part of a regular lunch program at the school. Authorities are investigating the matter to determine the exact cause of contamination. Samples from the food served have been collected for laboratory analysis to confirm the source of the poisoning.

Parents and guardians were understandably concerned, as food safety is a critical issue when it comes to school-provided meals. The health department is also conducting a thorough review of the school’s food handling processes, aiming to prevent future incidents.

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in Malaysia, where food safety standards at schools have occasionally been called into question. This event has reignited conversations about the need for stricter regulations and more frequent inspections to ensure the safety of food provided to schoolchildren.

Authorities have assured parents that they will take appropriate action against those found responsible for the contamination, and efforts are already being made to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future, as stated in Harian Metro.
