Govt urged to allow coffin makers to operate to curb casket price hike
KUALA LUMPUR, July 29: The Malaysian Indian Funeral Association (MIFA) has urged the government to allow coffin makers to operate in during the Movement Control Order (MCO) to curb the rise in the prices of caskets.
Its president Datuk M. Devman Segar said that currently casket prices have increased dramatically due to lack of supply.
“During this lockdown many coffin makers who have been making casket with affordable prices had to cease operations.
”This the main reason behind the sudden price hike,” he told The Hindu Press.
“We urge the government to lift the ban on many coffin makers.
“People are currently facing financial hardship.
“They can’t afford costly coffins to conduct funerals for the death of their family members.
“Hope the government will heed to Mifa’s call and allow coffin shops to operate,” Devman added.
