4th September 2024 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will embark on a two-day working visit to Russia, starting on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. The visit is in conjunction with the 9th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) held in Vladivostok, a major seaport in the Russian Far East.
This will be Anwar’s first official visit to Russia since he assumed office in November 2022. Anwar is expected to deliver a keynote address at the EEF plenary session on September 5, focusing on enhancing cooperation between Malaysia and Russia. His visit is anticipated to strengthen bilateral ties, especially in the economic and trade sectors.
According to Malaysia’s Ambassador to Russia, Cheong Loon Lai, the forum will provide Malaysia with opportunities to explore new avenues of collaboration, particularly in sectors like energy, agriculture, and technology.
Anwar’s participation in the forum highlights Malaysia’s interest in expanding its presence in the region and building strategic partnerships, not only with Russia but with other countries in attendance at the forum.
The Eastern Economic Forum, established in 2015, has grown to become one of the key platforms for promoting investment and cooperation between the Asia-Pacific region and Russia. Malaysia’s involvement this year underscores the importance of diversifying economic relations with global players.
The Prime Minister’s delegation includes several high-ranking officials and business leaders who will engage in various discussions and meetings throughout the visit, as stated in Malaysia Kini
