Apple Intelligence Set to Launch with iOS 18.1 on October 28, 2024

Apple is gearing up to release the highly anticipated Apple Intelligence features with the upcoming iOS 18.1 update on October 28, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman highlights that this update will be available for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models, marking Apple’s initial steps into more sophisticated AI-powered functionalities. The launch, initially planned for an earlier date, was delayed by a month to ensure a smooth user experience and to bolster the company’s cloud infrastructure to handle the increased demand.
The iOS 18.1 update will introduce a variety of new features, including improved writing tools that assist users in rewriting, summarizing, and proofreading text. Siri will also receive a fresh interface redesign. Furthermore, users will see notification summaries for apps like Messages and Mail, as well as a new “Clean Up” feature in the Photos app that uses generative AI to remove unwanted elements from pictures.
Gurman also mentioned that additional, more advanced Apple Intelligence capabilities, such as ChatGPT integration, the “Image Playground” for AI-driven creative visuals, and “Genmoji” for custom emoji creation, are scheduled to be released with iOS 18.2 in December. Additionally, a major Siri upgrade, which promises more personalized responses and improved control over apps, is expected to arrive in early 2025.
Although Apple Intelligence will primarily be available for iPhone 15 Pro and newer devices, it has already been in beta testing on Macs and iPads with M1 chips and later models, broadening access to these AI-driven tools. There are also rumors suggesting that the next generation of iPhone SE will support Apple Intelligence, potentially making the technology accessible to a wider range of users.
