KOKATA, INDIA 18TH AUGUST : Women doctors should not be assigned to night shifts in West Bengal’s medical schools and hospitals, the state government has suggested.
Declaring a new program named “Ratiirer Sathi” (night companion) for guaranteeing the safety of women doctors, Chief Minister’s Principal Advisor Alapan Bandyopadhyay said, “All attempts will be made to avoid allotting night duties to women doctors as far as possible,” as stated in NDTV.
At all medical colleges and hospitals, according to Mr. Bandyopadhyay, women-friendly security guards would be stationed.
“The female doctors will have their own facilities and toilets. They will have their own safe zones with round-the-clock CCTV surveillance. To connect the doctors with the local police stations, a unique app will be developed.
All female hospital doctors will be required to download the app, according to Mr. Bandyopadhyay. He also mentioned that plans will be made for the local police to regularly patrol the hospitals and medical colleges at night.
“Shifts will be arranged in such a manner that in case of night duties the women doctors can function in pairs,” said Bandyopadhyay. – NDTV
He claimed that the private medical organizations have also been asked to abide by these regulations by the state government.
“Both Kolkata and the districts will adhere to this method. The administration will take care to maintain a balanced male-to-female ratio in the event that security officers are deployed,” he continued, as mentioned in NDTV.
