28 SEPTEMBER: Datin Linda Ngiam, recipient of the Timeless Inspiration Award at the Life Begins at 50 Seniors Festival, believes that hard work is always rewarded.
Reflecting on her career after receiving the honor, Ngiam, who retired as the group managing director and CEO of Star Media Group in 2011, shared her thoughts on perseverance. She recently stepped down from her role as an independent non-executive director at Heineken Malaysia Bhd and now dedicates her time to charity work.
Ngiam credits her success to the lessons learned from her mother, who raised four children despite difficult circumstances. “Hard work and sacrifice are key. Success does not come without effort, and even those from humble beginnings can achieve great things through persistence,” she said.
Now actively involved as board chair of Make-A-Wish Malaysia and a trustee of Yayasan Sin Chew, Ngiam feels it is important to give back to society, a value shaped by her years at Star Media Group.Four others were also recognized with the Timeless Inspiration Award, including the first Dayak woman senator Tan Sri Empiang Jabu, sports commentator Datuk Abdul Rahim Razali, former national athlete Datuk Marina Chin, and educator Ramlah Md Jalee.
All embody the festival’s message that life after 50 offers new opportunities to inspire and contribute as stated in The Star.
