Cameron Highlands Forest Reserves Closed Due to Bad Weather

By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,

21st September 2014: The Cameron Highlands District Forestry Office has temporarily suspended recreational activities in the Permanent Forest Reserve for five days, starting from Wednesday. This decision follows weather forecasts predicting thunderstorms and rain, which increase the risk of landslides and falling trees in the area.

Forest officer Arifhadi Johari Affandi confirmed that hiking in all forest reserves, including popular spots like Mossy Forest Eco-Park and the Sungai Pauh Eco-Park camping site, is affected. Visitors who had reservations during this closure period are encouraged to contact the forest office to reschedule their bookings.

The temporary closure prioritizes visitor safety to avoid potential accidents from unstable weather conditions. Both Mossy Forest and Sungai Pauh Eco-Park are major tourist attractions, drawing both local and international visitors.

In a related update, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) of Peninsular Malaysia has also closed the Canopy Walkway at Taman Negara Pahang after fallen trees caused damage. The suspension of activities on the walkway will continue until repairs are completed, with an announcement of the reopening expected later.

These closures are part of broader efforts to ensure public safety amidst increasingly unpredictable weather patterns in the region. Visitors are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and any further announcements regarding the reopening of these areas, as stated in New Straits Times.
