13 SEPTEMBER: A daycare worker from a childcare center in Kelemak, Alor Gajah, was charged in court today following a week-long remand over the death of an eight-month-old baby at the facility. The 34-year-old woman, a mother of three, was arrested under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Alor Gajah District Police Chief, Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah, confirmed that the suspect was detained by the Sexual, Women, and Child Investigation Division (D11) last Friday after police received a report from Alor Gajah Hospital. The hospital had admitted the infant boy in an unconscious state after receiving him from the daycare.
The baby’s grandfather and mother had dropped him off at the center at 7:05 a.m., but were called back two hours later by staff, who said the child had turned blue. Upon arrival, they found the infant unresponsive, with a bloodied nose and limp body.
The baby’s father, Major TS Mohd Fikry Amri Abd Halim, 39, expressed deep grief, alleging that CCTV footage revealed the daycare worker had swaddled the child, stuffed a milk bottle into his mouth, and covered him with a cloth and pillow before the tragedy occurred as stated in Berita Harian.
