Deadpool & Wolverine have hit a new milestone in the MCU, surpassing popular films like Captain America: Civil War. It’s now the highest-grossing R-rated film ever, outpacing Joker and the previous Deadpool movies. While the film includes numerous cameos and ties to the MCU multiverse, the focus remains on the two main characters. Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, who were already top stars in Fox’s X-Men franchise, are now set for an exciting new chapter in the MCU.
On August 23, 2024—almost a month after its worldwide release—Deadpool & Wolverine surpassed the total earnings of Captain America: Civil War. According to Box Office Mojo, Deadpool & Wolverine has earned $1.154 billion, outpacing Civil War’s $1.153 billion. While Civil War saw an additional $1.75 million from a re-release in 2020, Deadpool & Wolverine is poised to exceed this amount soon.
This milestone is particularly impressive given that Deadpool & Wolverine carries an R rating, which did not prevent it from matching and even outperforming one of the Infinity Saga’s major crossovers. This crossover featured most of the Avengers and Spider-Man in his MCU debut.
