Dengue Cases Decline, No Deaths Reported

23 SEPTEMBER: The number of dengue cases in Malaysia has decreased to 1,794 during Epidemiological Week 37 (from September 8 to 14), compared to 1,870 cases the previous week, according to Health Director-General Datuk Dr. Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan. No deaths from dengue-related complications were reported during this period.

However, the cumulative dengue cases this year have reached 100,236, a significant increase from 84,865 cases in the same period last year. There have been 89 deaths due to dengue complications so far, compared to 59 deaths in 2023.

In Week 37, 43 hotspot localities were identified, with the majority located in Selangor (32), followed by Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (3), Perak (3), Negeri Sembilan (2), Penang (2), and Kelantan (1).

Meanwhile, no new chikungunya cases were reported, keeping the cumulative total at 72 cases. Testing for the Zika virus remains negative.

Dr. Muhammad Radzi urges anyone experiencing symptoms like sudden high fever, muscle aches, and joint pain to seek immediate medical attention to prevent severe complications and possible fatalities as stated in Berita Harian.
