India is in shock over the horrifying rape and death of a postgraduate trainee doctor in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital seminar hall in Kolkata. The Quint reports that there has been a noticeable surge in internet searches for the victim’s images and linked content. Invading and improper questions concerning the specifics of the victim’s assault are among the searches.
Even though the victim’s identity was kept secret by the media, her name and other private information appeared online. Search activity for phrases linked to the victim is concerning, according to Google Trends data, suggesting a flagrant breach of decency and privacy. ( Source Thetatvaindia )
Her violent past is depicted in graphic detail in the autopsy results, which show that she was severely sexually assaulted and strangled. Reputable medical authority have provided extensive reports based on these findings.
The release of the victim’s identity and photographs online has come under heavy fire, and at a Supreme Court hearing, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud emphasized the need of protecting the privacy of victims of sexual assault.
