Doctor Who Treated Anwar’s Black Eye in 1998 Passes Away

26th December: Dr. Abdul Aziz Baba, the doctor who treated Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s black eye in 1998, has passed away at the age of 64. He died at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre on December 25 after battling a chronic illness.
Dr. Abdul Aziz was a specialist at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur when he treated Anwar, who suffered injuries during his detention. The case, which involved allegations of assault, drew significant attention, both locally and internationally. Dr. Abdul Aziz’s role in documenting Anwar’s injuries was considered pivotal in shedding light on the incident.
Anwar, now Malaysia’s Prime Minister, expressed his condolences through social media. He praised Dr. Abdul Aziz for his courage and professionalism in handling the case despite the challenges and pressure of that time. Dr. Abdul Aziz leaves behind a legacy as a dedicated doctor who stood firm in his principles.
He is survived by his wife and three children. The funeral was held at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery, where family and friends gathered to pay their respects. His contributions to Malaysia’s medical and social history will be remembered.
