Driver and Attendant Killed in Truck Crash into Parked Trailer

23rd September 2024: A tragic accident occurred when a lorry collided with a stationary trailer at Kilometer 399.6 of the North-South Expressway near Behrang, resulting in the death of both the driver and his assistant. The incident took place at approximately 1:30 am.
According to Tanjung Malim district police chief, Superintendent Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, the lorry was believed to have lost control and crashed into the trailer parked by the side of the road due to mechanical failure. The impact caused severe damage to the front of the lorry, trapping both the driver and his assistant inside.
Emergency personnel from the Tanjung Malim Fire and Rescue Department were immediately dispatched to the scene. Rescuers worked tirelessly to extricate the victims from the wreckage using specialized equipment, but unfortunately, both men were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The bodies were later sent to the Slim River Hospital for post-mortem examinations. The driver of the stationary trailer, who was outside the vehicle at the time of the collision, was unharmed.
Superintendent Sulizmie reminded all road users to exercise caution, particularly when driving at night or when experiencing vehicle difficulties, to avoid such incidents. Investigations are ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
This tragic accident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance, especially when dealing with vehicle breakdowns on highways, as stated in Sinar Harian.
