Ecuadoran Woman Awakens in Coffin at Her Own Funeral

QUITO, JUNE 13: The same public hospital that certified an old Ecuadorian woman dead two days ago is now treating her, according to her son, after she woke up inside a coffin during her final ritual. Bella Montoya, 76, is shown in a video released on Twitter breathing heavily in her open casket with the help of two men.
In a video aired by local media, her son, Balberan stated, “They even gave us a death certificate.”
According to a statement released on Sunday by Ecuador’s Health Ministry, Montoya was admitted to the hospital with a suspected stroke and went into cardiorespiratory arrest without responding to treatment maneuvers, so the doctor on duty confirmed her death.
Media outlets in Ecuador covered the strange episode, with headlines praising the woman’s “resurrection.”
Balberan stated that she is using oxygen and has a steady heart. Besides she also reacted when the doctor pinched her hand, according to Balberán in a story by the publication El Universo.
