Elderly Man Crushed by Overturned Truck at Kukup Jetty

21st September 2024: A 64-year-old man tragically lost his life this morning when a truck overturned after part of the concrete floor at Kukup Laut Jetty collapsed unexpectedly.

Pontian District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib, said they received an emergency call at 7:15 AM reporting the incident. The elderly victim was in the process of unloading ice from the truck when the accident occurred.

“Investigations revealed that the jetty’s concrete floor, where the truck was parked, suddenly gave way. As a result, the truck, loaded with ice, overturned and crushed the victim.

“There are no signs of foul play, and the case has been classified as sudden death. The body has been sent to Pontian Hospital for a post-mortem,” he said.
The police urged anyone with further information to contact investigating officer, Sergeant Shahibul Hamdi Derama, at 018-2714199.

Meanwhile, Pontian Baru Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Operations Commander, Mohd Hasnan, stated that 11 personnel were dispatched to the scene with a fire engine upon receiving an emergency call at 6:51 AM.

The rescue team used specialized equipment to extricate the man, who was confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel.

The body was later handed over to the police for further investigation, and the rescue operation concluded at 9:21 AM, as stated in Berita Harian.
