Enough is enough: King calls for a new political landscape

By S. Laveenya

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said that the Yang di Pertuan Agong has called on politicians to unite against Covid-19 and forge “new politics”.

“Everyone has shared their views, and there has been a consensus to put a stop to the old ways of politics that is boring. The new political landscape must focus on development.

“The issue is not just the appointment of a new prime minister but the King and his deputy (Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah) want to form a new political landscape that is more peaceful and refreshing,” Anwar said.

Earlier, leaders of political parties were granted an audience with the King, as part of the process for determining the candidate for Malaysia’s new prime minister.

The audience was granted following the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday.

The two-hour audience, which began at Istana Negara at 2 pm, involved, among others, Anwar, PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

Also present at the audience were Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal while the presidents of all component parties of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) attended online.
