KUALA LUMPUR 17 JULY : The RM100 fine charged on a lady in the cyberbullying case of late Hindu rights activist and influencer A. Rajeswary, often known as Esha, has disappointed Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Owner of a welfare home Shalini Periasamy was fined on Tuesday, July 16, after entering a guilty plea to insulting behaviour with the intent to provoke rage and disturb the peace in the Magistrate’s Court as stated in Free Malaysia Today “I am disappointed with the small fine, but I’ve been made to understand by the Attorney-General’s Chambers that the punishment was meted out based on the evidence collected.

We need to review the definition of cyberbullying and set the appropriate penalties for it,” he informed the reporters ( source The Star )Given that the crime caused in a person’s death, he pointed out that the fine would not be very effective as a deterrent.

Additionally, Fahmi stated that he was examining the measures taken by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to punish those who post slanderous comments on social media, especially on sites that allow for live streaming, like TikTok (source The Star )
