Ex-PM Najib’s 12-year jail term begins today

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak becomes the first former Prime Minister of Malaysia to be jailed. Najib Razak was charged for abusing power and breaching trust in funds, RM 42 millions of SRC International Sdn Bhd.
Two years ago on July 28, he was convicted after 86 witnesses and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment and fined RM210 million which was executed today.
Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat ruled that ex pm was unable to prove the findings of lower courts were perverse and inneed intervention of Apex Court. Along CJ, panel judges were Tan Sri Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim (CJ of Sabah & Sarawak), Datuk Nallini Pathmanathan, Datuk Mary Lim Thiam Suan and Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah.
In accordance to Federal constitution, article 48(1)(e),Najib is autonomously disqualified for MP seat for Pekan.
