Facebook bans Muhammad Khalil’s profile after ‘congratulating’ Taliban
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19: PAS’ Batu Buruk assemblyman Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi’s Facebook account had been issued a 24-hour ban after he posted a post congratulating the Taliban on its takeover of Afghanistan.
According to Malay Mail, in an advisory notice on the statement, Facebook stated that the post had violated the platform’s community standards and Muhammad Khalil’s account had been issued a 24-hour ban from posting or commenting of any kind.
“This post goes against our standards on dangerous individuals and organisations, so only people who manage Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi can see it,’’ said the notice, Malay Mail reported.
On Wednesday, Muhammad Khalil, who is PAS’ International Affairs and Foreign Relations committee chairman and Terengganu assemblyman congratulated “the people of Afghanistan and the Taliban-led government for their victory”.
“With this victory, it is hoped that all stakeholders will work together and reach an agreement to make peace and work to redevelop and put Afghanistan back on track.
“May the new government of Afghanistan and its people work together to develop Afghanistan and achieve prosperity, peace and progress after this based on the Shariah and comprehensive Islamic values as well as receive the blessings, blessings and help of Allah SWT,” he had said.
Malay Mail reported that Muhammad Khalil’s Facebook account was also prevented from going “live” or advertising for 60 days.
Muhammad Khalil’s controversial post has since drawn flak from Malaysian Twitter users.
Michelle Yesudas, Human Rights Activist tweeted that: “Regardless matter who becomes PM 9, please reprimand PAS and refuse to allow them into the cabinet, your administration will suffer the price for bowing to the Taliban.”
Another twitter user @rafieedruce, Rafie tweeted: “Of course Malaysia’s taliban / PAS will celebrate the desecration of women’s rights and the killing of non-cis-hetero people. Disgusting people, and disgusting political party. Rotten to the core.”
