Final Report Reveals Wrong Pilot Seating and Pre-Landing Errors Led to Elmina Crash

By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,

Kuala Lumpur, 17th August -The final report on the Elmina plane crash has revealed that the pilots were seated incorrectly, with the captain in the co-pilot’s seat and vice versa.

The aircraft, a Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) carrying six passengers and two crew members, crashed on August 17, 2023, in Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam. The report by the Transport Ministry’s Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) highlighted that the pilots’ seating arrangement caused confusion and errors in communication and aircraft control.

Additionally, the report mentioned that the pilots did not follow standard operating procedures during the landing approach, leading to a loss of control of the aircraft.

The investigation concluded that these factors were the primary cause of the crash. The crash claimed the lives of all eight people on board, including the Pahang State Executive Council member, as well as two motorists on the ground.

The AAIB recommended improvements in pilot training and adherence to standard operating procedures to prevent similar accidents in the future.

The report underscores the importance of following established protocols and the need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations in aviation, as stated in Malaymail.
