3 OCTOBER: Five individuals, including a child, were rescued by the fire department following a flash flood (kepala air) at Kampung Batu 10, near the Cheras-Kajang Highway, yesterday evening.
Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, Assistant Director of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), stated that they received a distress call at 9:05 PM regarding the incident. A team consisting of six officers and firefighters from the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the operation commander reported that the five victims—three men, one woman, and a young boy—had become stranded on the opposite side of the river due to the sudden surge of water. The rescue team swiftly employed a ladder to help the victims cross the river safely.
“All five were successfully rescued without injury,” Ahmad Mukhlis confirmed in a statement today.
The quick response and efficient teamwork of the rescue unit ensured that the victims were brought to safety in a timely manner, preventing what could have been a more dangerous situation.
Flash floods, especially in areas near rivers, can occur unexpectedly, posing significant danger to those nearby. Authorities continue to remind the public to be cautious during heavy rains and avoid riverbanks during periods of potential flooding.
