Flood Situation in Kedah Improves, Perak Remains Unchanged

By Subaashinee Kupusamy,

2 OCTOBER: The flood situation in Kedah continues to improve, with the number of evacuees reducing to 633 people from 212 families, currently housed in 10 temporary relief centers (PPS) across three districts. This marks a decrease from the 664 victims from 217 families reported at 11 p.m. last night.

As of 8:30 a.m. today, Kota Setar recorded 276 flood victims from 86 families across three PPS, while Baling shelters 253 victims from 93 families at five PPS. Pokok Sena currently hosts 103 evacuees from 32 families across two PPS.

According to the Public Infobanjir website of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), water levels in three rivers are rising. Both the Anak Bukit River at Taman Aman and at the TAR Bridge have exceeded the warning level, while the Kedah River at the Highway Bridge is at the alert stage.

Meanwhile, in Perak, the flood situation remains unchanged. The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that 16 flood victims from five families are still housed at the Dewan Serbaguna Dato Azman Mahalan PPS in Kampar.

Additionally, JPS reported that the water level in Sungai Perak at Kuala Kenderong in Hulu Perak remains at a dangerous level, measuring 113.78 meters.

Though Kedah is seeing a gradual improvement, the authorities remain vigilant, particularly with the rising river levels and the possibility of further rain as stated in Berita Harian.
