Focus on Existing Schools, Not MARA Primary Schools, Government Urged

By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,

27th August 2024 – A former minister has advised the government to prioritize improving the existing school system instead of establishing MARA primary schools. Former education minister Maszlee Malik highlighted that the government should channel resources into upgrading facilities and ensuring better quality education in current schools, particularly those in rural and underprivileged areas.

Maszlee pointed out that the existing schools are in dire need of attention, with many suffering from a lack of basic infrastructure, poor maintenance, and insufficient teaching resources. He emphasized that the creation of MARA primary schools would divert crucial funds and focus away from the pressing issues faced by existing institutions.

Furthermore, Maszlee questioned the necessity of establishing MARA primary schools, arguing that the current education system, if properly managed and funded, can meet the needs of all students, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

He urged the government to reconsider its plans and to direct its efforts towards strengthening the current school system, ensuring that all students, regardless of their socio-economic status, have access to quality education. By doing so, the government can better address the disparities in the education system and promote equal opportunities for all children, as stated in Free Malaysia Today.
