4 SEPTEMBER: Four individuals were involved in a tragic accident when their truck veered off the road and overturned into a drain at Kilometer 33.2 of the North-South Expressway heading north early this morning. The victims are believed to be road maintenance workers.

According to Superintendent Rodzi Abu Hassan, the Chief of the Kubang Pasu District Police, one of the victims, a 36-year-old road maintenance assistant, died at the scene.

Police received reports about the accident, which occurred around 7:30 AM, involving a Hino truck that reportedly lost control and crashed into the drain.

The investigation revealed that the accident took place when the 32-year-old local driver was operating the truck, heading from Bukit Minyak in Penang towards Tunjang, Jitra, for road repair work. Upon reaching the accident site, the truck allegedly lost control, causing it to skid into the drain. The vehicle overturned and ended up partially submerged.

Earlier reports indicated that one man was killed, and three others sustained injuries in the incident.

This accident underscores the risks faced by road maintenance workers, who often operate in hazardous conditions to ensure the safety of others. Authorities are likely to conduct further investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident and to assess if all safety protocols were observed as stated in Berita Harian.
