By Subaashinee Kupusamy,

25 NOVEMBER: Shahjahan Asan Aliar, a fishmonger from Penang, began his journey in the market at a young age, earning just 10 cents a day working alongside his father. Despite the early struggles, his resilience and hard work helped him establish his own stall in Chowrasta Market. However, his business faced a significant downturn during the COVID-19 pandemic, with sales falling drastically.

In response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, Shahjahan turned to digital platforms through Grab’s #TechUntukSemua initiative. This move allowed him to reach a broader customer base, offering fresh fish to households across Penang. The decision to leverage technology proved crucial in maintaining and expanding his business during such difficult times.

Today, Shahjahan’s business is thriving, supplying fresh fish to various parts of Penang. His success story highlights the importance of adaptability, technology, and perseverance in overcoming adversity. From humble beginnings, he has transformed into a key supplier in the region, proving that innovation and determination can turn challenges into opportunities as stated in Astro Ulagam.
