India’s selection for the Oscars, especially in the Best International Feature Film category, always attracts considerable attention. The Film Federation of India recently revealed the list of movies vying for the Oscars 2025.
Among them, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ from Bollywood has been chosen as India’s official entry for the prestigious awards. Initially, 29 Indian films were shortlisted for consideration. From Tamil cinema, notable films such as ‘Thangalaan’, ‘Maharaja’, ‘Kottukkaali’, ‘Vaazhai’, ‘Jigarthanda DoubleX’, and ‘Jama’ were submitted for consideration.
However, all these films were ultimately overshadowed by Kiran Rao’s directorial, ‘Laapataa Ladies’, which made it as India’s official submission. The rejection of Vijay Sethupathi’s ‘Maharaja’ has particularly upset Kollywood fans, many of whom took to social media to express their disappointment and concerns.
