By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,

23rd September 2024: A viral image of a fuel station worker lying in a pool of blood sparked rumors on social media suggesting that she had been shot following a robbery in Taiping. However, Taiping District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Nasir Ismail, clarified that the woman had not been shot. She fainted due to health issues and fell, causing head injuries that led to bleeding.

The victim was quickly taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities are urging the public not to spread misinformation, as it can lead to legal action under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Mohamad Nasir emphasized the importance of verifying facts before sharing news on social media to prevent unnecessary panic or confusion.

The incident initially caused alarm due to the graphic nature of the image. The police reassured the public that there was no criminal activity involved and that the situation was a result of a medical condition. The swift response from the authorities highlights the importance of curbing the spread of false information online, which can escalate situations unnecessarily.

In conclusion, the police have reiterated that the public should avoid jumping to conclusions and disseminating unverified information, as it can cause harm and lead to legal consequences. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment, and there are no further concerns about her safety, as stated in Sinar Harian.
