25th September 2024: In conjunction with Deepavali celebrations, the Malaysian government has allocated RM1.5 million worth of food aid to underprivileged communities, extending its festive goodwill. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the initiative as part of the Prihatin Madani aid program, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on lower-income households during the festive season.

The food aid packages, which consist of basic necessities such as rice, cooking oil, and flour, will be distributed across Peninsular Malaysia, benefitting approximately 30,000 families. The program specifically targets B40 families and single mothers, with hopes to foster a more inclusive celebration and provide comfort during this special time.

Zahid emphasized the government’s continued commitment to helping those in need, particularly during major cultural and religious events like Deepavali. He acknowledged the ongoing economic challenges faced by many Malaysians and reiterated that the government remains focused on supporting all communities, regardless of their background.

The distribution of aid is facilitated by the Department of Community Welfare (JKM) in collaboration with various non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Zahid expressed his gratitude to these organizations for their assistance and urged more stakeholders to join in helping the underprivileged.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to ensure that no Malaysian is left behind during festive occasions, aligning with the spirit of unity and inclusivity that the nation upholds. With the Deepavali season fast approaching, this food aid will bring much-needed relief to vulnerable families, ensuring that everyone can partake in the joyous celebration.

This RM1.5 million allocation reflects the government’s dedication to ensuring food security for all its citizens, especially during culturally significant events like Deepavali, as stated in Free Malaysia Today.
