4th September 2024 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed that the cabinet addresses Malaysia Airlines’ (MAS) issues weekly, emphasizing the government’s commitment to the airline’s recovery. Speaking at a Khazanah Nasional event in Kuala Lumpur on September 3, 2024, Anwar highlighted the ongoing efforts to save MAS, focusing on strategic measures to resolve the airline’s longstanding financial struggles.
Anwar’s comments reflect the government’s seriousness in stabilizing and revitalizing MAS, which has faced financial turbulence for years. The Prime Minister noted that MAS holds significant national importance, both economically and symbolically, and the administration is determined to find sustainable solutions.
While the government is actively involved in discussions, Anwar acknowledged the complexity of the airline’s challenges. These include operational costs, global competition, and the need for strategic restructuring. He assured that cabinet members are exploring various options to secure the airline’s future, ensuring it remains a vital part of Malaysia’s economy.
Anwar’s statement comes amid broader efforts by Khazanah Nasional, the sovereign wealth fund that owns MAS, to implement changes aimed at turning the airline around.
