25 SEPTEMBER: Graphjet Technology Sdn Bhd, a trailblazer in sustainable graphite and graphene production, has been named a finalist for the prestigious Platts Global Energy Awards 2024. Recognized in the “Energy Transition – Emerging Technology” category, Graphjet’s innovative process of converting palm kernel shells into valuable graphite and graphene has positioned it as a global leader in clean energy technology.
The Platts Global Energy Awards, often called the “Oscars” of the energy sector, celebrate groundbreaking companies that are driving transformative changes in the energy industry. Established in 1999, these awards emphasize the vital role of innovation in addressing global energy challenges. The 2024 awards ceremony is set to take place in New York City on December 12, 2024.
Graphjet’s nomination also highlights Malaysia’s growing impact on the global energy transition. As a homegrown company, Graphjet’s recognition reflects the country’s potential to lead in sustainable solutions, particularly in electric vehicles (EV) and semiconductor industries. By utilizing agricultural waste for creating high-performance materials, the company is advancing circular economy models and contributing to carbon footprint reduction worldwide.
Graphjet Technology’s main product is sustainable graphite and graphene. They produce these high-value materials by converting agricultural waste, specifically palm kernel shells, into graphite and graphene. These materials are crucial for a variety of industries, including electric vehicles (EVs) and semiconductors, and are known for their exceptional strength, conductivity, and sustainability. This process not only adds value to agricultural byproducts but also supports cleaner energy solutions.
Aiden Lee Ping Wei, Co-founder and CEO of Graphjet, expressed pride in the nomination, calling it a significant achievement for both Graphjet and Malaysia. He looks forward to sharing their innovation journey at the awards ceremony, underscoring the company’s commitment to global sustainability efforts as stated in Business Today.
