11 SEPTEMBER: A primary school headmistress from Teluk Intan was fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court today after pleading guilty to using her position to falsify documents three years ago. Rosnah Mat Zain, 57, admitted to an alternative charge under Section 471 of the Penal Code.

Judge Datuk Ibrahim Osman, who presided over the case, ruled that Rosnah would face a one-month prison sentence if she failed to pay the fine. However, the headmistress settled the amount in court.

According to the charge, Rosnah was accused of using a false document, an invoice from Brickwork Resource dated December 6, 2021, addressed to a primary school in Teluk Intan. The invoice was for the purchase of a digital piano and black bench, valued at RM10,200. This fraudulent act occurred on December 9, 2021.

Rosnah chose her son-in-law’s company to supply the musical instruments, in which she had a personal interest. If convicted, she could face up to two years in prison, a fine, or both.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutors Sharul Azuan Ghazali and Maziah Mansor, while Rosnah was unrepresented. Judge Ibrahim advised her to be cautious in future decisions and to repent, reminding her that this was only worldly punishment as stated in Berita Harian.
