KUALA LUMPUR, 28 Apr: The Health Ministry will suggest the use of face masks mandatory in all schools once more to prevent a reappearance of Covid-19, due to the new variant known as XBBB1.16, or Arcturus.
According to New Straits Times, the health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said she is scheduled for an urgent meeting with her counterpart in the education ministry, Fadhlina Sidek before schools are resume on May 2.
Twelve incidents of the Arcturus variant were found with six in the Klang Valley, and the remaining eight were found in Sarawak.
Arcturus is a subvariant of Omicron, which is thought to be highly infectious and less sensitive to vaccination. The rise of infections in nations like India is thought to be caused by it.
“If they develop symptoms of (Covid-19), they should wear a face mask, maintain their prior social isolation, and seek medical attention” said Dr Zaliha Mustafa the health minister as stated in NST.
