Heritage Zone from Dataran Merdeka to National Mosque Announced

Kuala Lumpur, 20th August – A new heritage zone spanning from Dataran Merdeka to the National Mosque has been announced, aimed at preserving and promoting the rich cultural and historical significance of the area.

Federal Territories Minister, Khalid Samad, stated that this zone will include several iconic landmarks, such as the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the Islamic Arts Museum. The initiative seeks to enhance the area’s appeal to both tourists and locals by maintaining its historical integrity while improving facilities and accessibility.


The heritage zone will be developed in phases, with a focus on restoring historical buildings and creating pedestrian-friendly pathways. The project also aims to integrate modern amenities without compromising the historical character of the area. Khalid emphasized that the preservation of the city’s heritage is crucial for future generations and will contribute to the cultural and economic development of Kuala Lumpur.


The government plans to collaborate with various stakeholders, including the private sector and cultural organizations, to ensure the success of this project. This heritage zone is expected to become a major attraction, celebrating the unique history and culture of Malaysia, as stated in Free Malaysia Today.
