7 SEPTEMBER: A passenger plane from India made an emergency landing in eastern Turkey today due to a “security concern” while en route to Germany.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Vistara Airlines flight, traveling from Mumbai to Frankfurt, was diverted to Erzurum Airport in Turkey.
The airline confirmed in a statement that flight UK27 from Mumbai to Frankfurt (BOM-FRA) was rerouted to Turkey for security reasons and safely landed at 7:05 PM.
Initial reports indicate that the emergency landing was prompted by a bomb threat. Emergency response teams in Turkey, including the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), medical personnel, police, and firefighters, were immediately dispatched to the airport following the emergency landing.
The Governor of Erzurum, Mustafa Cifci, told Anadolu that the plane was carrying 247 passengers and crew members, who were safely evacuated. A thorough inspection of the cabin and cargo area is currently underway.
“Teams are on-site inspecting the luggage. AFAD teams have safely evacuated all passengers. Law enforcement, including special operations police, and other units are in place,” said Cifci.
He also noted that airspace over Erzurum has been closed to other flights as a precaution as stated in Berita Harian.
