India’s men hockey team beat Spain 2-1

Paris, 9 August 2024: After 52 years, the Indian men’s hockey team achieved a historic victory when they took home the bronze medal from the Olympics in Paris. After the Tokyo Olympics, the squad won their second straight Olympic medal, defeating Spain 2-1 – The Economic Times
With the victory, experienced goalkeeper and former Indian national team captain P R Sreejesh played his final international game. Sreejesh declared his retirement plans before the Olympics in Paris, and this would be his final international appearance for India.
India lost their most recent game, 2-3, against Germany, which prevented them from moving on to the semi-finals. The squad defeated Germany, who failed to score a goal, in the first quarter despite missing penalties – The Economic Times
In the third quarter, Germany tied the game at 2-2 after scoring two goals against India. However, in the last quarter, Germany added another goal to complete India’s triumph and send them to the finals where they would face the Netherlands.
Even with just ten players, the Indian squad had already overcome Great Britain in a quarterfinal match. After 52 years, the Indian team has now won two straight Olympic medals – The Economic Times
