Influencers Alif Teega and Wife to Face Joint Trial in Charity Fraud Case

By Subaashinee Kupusamy,

21st October: Social media influencer Mohd Hazalif Mohd Hazani, widely known as Alif Teega, and his wife, Aisyah Hijanah Azhari, are set to face a joint trial at the Shah AlamSessions Court for multiple charges of misappropriating infaq (Islamic charity) donations.

This follows a decision by Sessions Court Judge Azura Alwi to grant deputy public prosecutor Julaila Jamaludin’s request to transfer two of Hazalif’s cases to the Shah AlamSessions Court. The couple now faces 10 joint charges related to the alleged misuse of donations intended for various charitable causes.

The prosecution, under Section 61 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act, sought a joint trial, which Hazalif’s lawyer, Mohd Shahrullah Khan, did not oppose. Shahrullah also requested an early mention date, as Hazalif has applied for the temporary release of his passport. The judge confirmed that her counterpart in Shah Alam would be informed to transfer the RM50,000 bail granted in this case.

The case will be mentioned this Wednesday at the Shah Alam Sessions Court. Both Hazalif, 30, and Aisyah, 26, appeared in court for the proceedings.

Hazalif previously pleaded not guilty to two charges on September 20, relating to the misappropriation of RM63,605.48 in donations intended for iftar (breaking of fast) and qurban (sacrificial livestock) programmes. The first charge involves RM36,047.35 for iftar in Makkah, Syria, and Palestine, while the second charge concerns RM27,558.13 for a qurbanprogramme.

On September 23, the couple was jointly charged with misappropriating RM1.53 million, funds intended for the poor, flood victims, and orphans three years ago as stated in NST.
