Instagram Introduces New Teen Account Feature

By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,

18th September 2024 -Instagram has launched a new feature designed specifically for teenagers, allowing them to create accounts with additional privacy controls. This initiative aims to enhance safety and user experience for younger users on the platform.

The new teen account feature provides more stringent privacy settings by default. For instance, accounts created by users aged 13 to 17 will be set to private automatically, meaning only approved followers can view their content. Additionally, these accounts will have restricted options for interacting with other users, reducing the risk of exposure to potentially harmful content.

Teen users will also see more tailored recommendations and safety prompts. Instagram has introduced features that encourage responsible behavior and inform users about privacy settings. This includes tips on how to manage interactions and report inappropriate behavior.

Furthermore, Instagram’s update includes improved controls for parents and guardians. Parents can now set up family accounts, allowing them to monitor their child’s activity on the platform. These family accounts come with parental guidance tools to ensure that teenagers have a safer and more positive experience online.

This move is part of Instagram’s broader effort to address concerns about online safety and well-being among younger users. The platform hopes these changes will provide a more secure environment for teenagers while fostering positive interactions on the app, as stated in the Sinar Harian.
