Investigation into Thai Students Crossing to Study in Malaysia

By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,

20th November: The Malaysian Education Ministry is investigating reports that nearly 500 Thai students are illegally crossing the Sg. Golok river daily to attend schools in Malaysia. This trend has raised concerns regarding immigration compliance and the legality of their enrollment in educational institutions.

The ministry aims to understand the implications of this influx and ensure that educational standards are upheld. Authorities are examining the processes through which these students gain admission and whether they adhere to necessary regulations.

With Malaysia’s proximity to Thailand and its reputation for quality education, many Thai students are drawn to study there. However, the ministry emphasizes the importance of maintaining legal frameworks while providing access to quality education. The investigation reflects a commitment to transparency and adherence to national policies, ensuring that all students can pursue their academic goals within legal boundaries, as stated in The Star.
