23rd December 2024: Repairs to address roof leaks at the Ipoh Railway Station are expected to be finished by February 2025.
Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, Perak’s infrastructure and public transport committee chairman, shared that the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) has implemented several measures to resolve the issue.
In November 2024, gutters and rainwater downpipes were installed on the station’s platform roof. Meanwhile, waterproofing work on the flat roof is ongoing and is scheduled for completion by January 2025. These efforts aim to eliminate water leakage in the station’s departure hall by February. Inspections revealed that the leaks were caused by excessive rainwater from the platform roof and a damaged waterproofing layer on the flat roof.
The newly installed gutters and downpipes will ensure rainwater is directed into the drainage system, while the upgraded waterproofing will prevent further seepage. Nizar noted that the Tourism Ministry had lodged complaints about the leaks, emphasizing the importance of resolving the matter.
Once completed, the improvements will enhance the station’s facilities for passengers and tourists, ensuring a more pleasant travel experience. The state remains committed to addressing infrastructure issues for better public transport services, as stated in The Star.
