Johor Declares August 25 a Special Holiday

By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,

Kuala Lumpur, 20th August – The Johor state government has officially declared August 25, 2024, as a special public holiday.

This announcement comes in conjunction with the upcoming by-election in the Pulai parliamentary seat and the Simpang Jeram state seat. The decision is aimed at encouraging voters to participate actively in the electoral process by making it easier for them to cast their votes.

Johor’s Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, stated that the holiday will provide residents with the opportunity to fulfill their civic duties without the constraints of work commitments. The special holiday is applicable to all sectors across the state.

The government hopes that this initiative will lead to a higher voter turnout, reflecting the importance of every vote in shaping the future of the state. This decision aligns with the government’s efforts to promote democracy and ensure that all eligible voters have the chance to exercise their rights, as stated in Malaymail.
