Johor Immigration Breaks Begging Syndicate Using Disabled People
By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran
10th September 2024 – Johor Immigration has uncovered a group that was forcing disabled people to beg. On September 6, 2024, six Chinese nationals were arrested in Johor Bahru for their involvement in this illegal activity. The group brought disabled people into Malaysia on tourist visas and forced them to beg at crowded places like markets and busy roads.
The syndicate gave these disabled individuals only basic necessities, while the money collected from begging went to the group. The victims, all with physical disabilities, were treated unfairly and made to beg.
Johor Immigration Director Baharuddin Tahir said that this group had been operating for a while. The arrests were made after weeks of surveillance and investigation. The suspects are now being investigated under immigration and human trafficking laws.
The authorities promise to keep fighting against such illegal activities. This case also brings attention to the problem of human trafficking and the exploitation of vulnerable people in Malaysia. Investigations are still ongoing, and the authorities are working hard to make sure those responsible face justice, as stated in astroulagam.
