Kelantan Residents Urged to Report After Returning from High-Risk Countries for Mpox
By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,
18th September 2024 –The Kelantan Health Department is urging residents who return from high-risk countries to report to the nearest district health office. This measure is part of the effort to prevent the spread of mpox (monkeypox). Those who have traveled abroad, particularly to high-risk areas, and experience symptoms like fever, rashes, or swollen lymph nodes are encouraged to seek medical attention immediately.
Health authorities are focused on early detection to control any potential outbreaks, especially among travelers. Anyone who has been to countries with a significant number of mpox cases should monitor their health for 21 days after returning to Malaysia. Close contact with others should be avoided if symptoms develop during this period.
The Health Department has emphasized that prompt reporting and health monitoring are essential to prevent the spread of the virus. This is especially important given the mobility of people traveling for work, education, or holidays.
Kelantan residents are encouraged to play their part in ensuring public health safety, not only by reporting their travel history but also by adhering to quarantine protocols if necessary.
This initiative is in line with the national effort to keep mpox under control, given its potential public health risks, as stated in The Star.
