16 SEPTEMBER: In a heartfelt message, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, the Queen, extended warm Malaysia Day greetings to all citizens. Their well-wishes were shared on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page on Monday, September 16.

The royal couple took the opportunity to express their hopes for the nation’s continued protection, blessings, and prosperity. They highlighted the crucial role that tolerance and respect among the country’s diverse races and religions have played in maintaining unity.

“Tolerance and respect for one another, regardless of religion or race, have always been the backbone of our national unity,” Sultan Ibrahim remarked. He further emphasized that unity in Malaysia’s multi-racial society remains a gift of great significance to him personally.

Malaysia Day, observed annually on September 16, marks the formation of Malaysia in 1963, when Sabah, Sarawak, and Singapore joined Malaya to create the Federation of Malaysia. Although Singapore later became an independent nation, the day remains a crucial celebration of the country’s diversity and unity.

The national Malaysia Day celebration will be held on Monday evening at Padang Merdeka in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. This event promises to bring together Malaysians from all walks of life to commemorate the nation’s enduring spirit of unity and cooperation.

The King and Queen’s message resonates with the theme of national unity, reminding Malaysians of the importance of mutual respect and understanding in fostering a harmonious and prosperous future as stated in The Star.
